In 16th-century Japan, Shinmen Takezou and his friend Matahachi Honiden leave their village to seek a more exciting life. They join the Toyotomi army but face defeat at the Battle of Sekigahara. Shinmen returns home to inform Matahachi’s family but is falsely accused of his friend’s murder. He is saved by a monk named Takuan Soho, who renames him Musashi Miyamoto. Vagabond is a fictional retelling of Musashi Miyamoto’s life, from his ambition to become invincible to his realization of the importance of friendship and self-reflection
The story of Vagabond begins with Musashi, a young and brash swordsman, who sets out on a journey to become the greatest swordsman in Japan. Along the way, he encounters a variety of characters, both friend and foe, who shape his journey and help him to grow as a swordsman and as a person.
Some seinen manga, I believe, take the meaning too far. The gore and nudity found in them is simply disturbing, no longer artistic, just omnipresent and absolutely in-your-face.
Vagabond is not like those seinen manga.
From the beginning, Vagabond has this strange allure to it. Drawn to this manga by the promise of awesome fight scenes, [oh yes, I assure you, you will not be disappointed by the fight scenes], you find yourself hooked to this manga.
Absolutely, completely, utterly, hooked.
It starts off with a rather rude and yet beautiful jerk, depicting the scene of a battlefield in splendid watercolor. The manga just rides on from there, rising. kstanime
